Tax calculator
Federal Taxable Income Estimator
Estimate federal taxable income from selected income and deductions. For an income-tax estimate, use the Canadian Personal Income Tax Calculator. Québec provincial taxable income may differ from this federal estimate.
How this estimate works
What the calculator estimates
This calculator estimates federal taxable income from the income components and federal deductions you enter. It does not calculate income tax, federal net income or Québec provincial taxable income.
Calculation method
The calculator adds the income amounts and subtracts the entered deductions up to the total income entered. The estimate cannot fall below zero. Taxable capital gains and taxable dividends must already reflect any applicable inclusion or gross-up; those adjustments are not applied again.
Understanding the result
Taxable income is a tax-calculation base, not income tax payable, a refund or spendable income. Federal net income is a different measure and may also be required by another calculation.
Important limitations
The estimate does not determine deduction eligibility or limits, losses, carryforwards, tax credits, benefits or every return-specific adjustment. Income and deductions must be correctly classified for the same person and tax year. A complete return may produce a different amount.
